This year for Dementia Action Week, 15th to 21st September, which includes World Alzheimer’s Day occurring on Sunday 21st September, we invite you to take the lead in your community to ensure all Australians understand that when it comes to dementia 'Nobody can do it alone’.

Each year for Dementia Action Week, AAG produces a webinar or online presentation to share with our members and networks. You can view some of our past activities here: AAG Dementia Action Week activities.

This year, we’re doing something different. AAG are the thought leaders in ageing, whose overarching aim is to improve the experience of ageing by connecting gerontological research, policy and practice.

As you are aware, AAG takes a lifecourse approach. While the majority of our members focus is on the later stages of life, we believe it’s just as important to spotlight the early journey of life. In this case, dementia in childhood.

That’s why in 2025 we’re shining a light on childhood dementia and the work of the Childhood Dementia Initiative.

Did you know children can get dementia? It is caused by more than 140 genetic conditions, and 1 in every 2,900 babies is born with one of these disorders. Symptoms mirror those seen in adults, but awareness and understanding remain low.

September 17 is Childhood Dementia Day. We invite you to help raise awareness by watching and sharing our special presentation.

Together, let’s ensure that when it comes to dementia, at any age, “Nobody can do it alone.”

This Dementia Action Week we challenge everyone in the community to reach out and reconnect to someone impacted by dementia.
