SAGe 2019 - South Australian Gerontology (SAGe) Conference

Over 100 delegates attended Flinders University at Tonsley on 21 June for the 2019 South Australian Gerontology (SAGe) Conference. With a focus on ‘Connections: People, Place, Policy’, the day comprised a series of keynote, paper and pitch presentations set to inspire and challenge.

Outstanding plenary sessions included Jeanette Walters’ update on how SA Health’s Office for Ageing Well are connecting with older people in South Australia; an introduction to Megan Corlis’ emotive work with Forgotten Australians; Daryl Kroschel describing Silver Chain’s exciting new integrated care model, Integrum Aged Care+; Ngaire Hobbins’ inspiring ACH Group Sir Keith Wilson Oration on challenging ageism; and Matiu Bush’s social innovations delivering fantastic results one good street at a time.

The pitch presentations were again a highlight! This was an incredibly dynamic session with some wonderful ideas on display. Congratulations to Lisa Elder and the City of Onkaparinga Fish Feeders who won the Best Pitch Presentation prize for their spectacular interactive presentation!

The Scientific Committee were thrilled to see a large number of abstract submissions from student and early career authors this year. Congratulations to Lenore de la Perrelle who won the 2019 Gary Andrews Student Prize for the Best Presentation. Well done also to 2018 Robert Penhall Early Career Research Award winner Agathe Jadczak for an insightful plenary presentation on educating medical students on prescribing exercise to older adults.

Many thanks to everyone who helped make the day possible – especially to our Platinum Sponsor, Office for Ageing Well; also to ACH Group for their continued support of the Conference and the Sir Keith Wilson Oration; the Global Centre for Modern Ageing; Flinders University; and the Ageing in a Foreign Land Conference committee for the chance to align the two events. Additional thanks to all the presenters, special guests, exhibitors and the wonderful SAGe Conference organising committee.
