2020-10 Assistive Technology for All submission to review of National Disability Strategy
Assistive Technology for All (ATFA) is a national alliance of peak bodies and consumer representatives spanning the Ageing and Disability Sectors that AAG is a member of. Together, we are advocating for equitable access to AT for people with disability who are not eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
AAG is an active member of the ATFA and endorsed this ATFA submission to the Review of the National Disability Strategy Stage 2 Consultations.
We recognise that the National Disability Strategy is a blueprint for the progressive realisation of the rights set out under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As such, this submission:
- Highlights the role that assistive technology plays in promoting, protecting, and upholding the rights of people with disability.
- Outlines current gaps in the provision of assistive technology to people with disability who are excluded from the NDIS.
- Advocates the need for the new National Disability Strategy to urgently address existing service gaps for people with disability who are excluded from the NDIS.
- Demonstrates the need for a harmonised and nationally consistent assistive technology program to meet the needs of people with disability who are excluded from the NDIS.
