Poet, Professor & Advocate to give keynote

The 2021 AAG Conference - Digital is pleased to announce that Professor Sarah Holland-Batt will be delivering the 2021 David Wallace Address. Professor Holland-Batt is a poet, editor and critic and a member of Queensland University of Technology’s Creative Writing faculty. Her most recent book, The Hazards (UQP, 2015), won the 2016 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry. She recently appeared as a witness at the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, where she testified about the abusive treatment and neglect her father has experienced in his aged care facility.

As a critic, she writes for publications including The Monthly and Australian Book Review, and she also contributes commentary, reportage and analysis on aged care issues for media outlets including ABC News, Q&A, 7:30, The Project, The Guardian, The Australian, Inside Story, Radio National and other forums.

Sarah will share her experiences and thoughts around aged care issues.

Asia/Oceania Workshop at AAG Conference

A new pre-AAG Conference workshop onBeing active players in the Asia / Oceania and global communitiesfrom 10.00 to midday (ADST) on Thursday October 28th is now open for bookings. The workshop is hosted by AAG’s Asia/Oceania Special Interest Group and will include Professors Julie Byles, Keith Hill from Australia, Professor Ashish Goel from India and A/Professor Tim Xu from Singapore.

This workshop will provide:

~ some historical perspectives of Australia’s role in the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics at the regional (Asia/Oceania) and global level, as well as other world roles including the ILC Global Alliance and representations to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations

~ some examples of current research being undertaken within the Asia Oceania region

~ some perspectives of future engagement by individuals, organisations and the AAG within the Asia Oceania region, and

~ opportunities to discuss strengthening the AAG Asia/Oceania SIG, as well as strategies for individuals, especially early career researchers, practitioners and educators, to build regional linkages.

It provides a framework for the group and associated activities going forwards, to strengthen the network of AAG members with (or wanting to develop) regional links, and to provide activities to support AAG members in this. Policy and Practice Update - September 2021

Members have recently been sent the monthly AAG Policy & Practice Update for September 2021.

This month's update encouraged members to get involved in a survey on the community service sector, the assurance review of home care packages and to engage with researchers to set new priorities for research into aged care.

This update continues to highlight:

~ Ways to get involved in the policy and practice;

~ Continuing opportunities that members can get involved in;

~ And relevant grants, awards, and funding opportunities

Alongside the policy and practice update, new and existing grey literature on older adults and ageing can be found in the AAG Grey Literature Library.
