Mental Health and Ageing: Clinical and Innovative Approaches
Little is understood about the prevalence of mental disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse in our older population (65 and above years). This is partly due to lack of acknowledgement by older people themselves that they may have mental health problems. Other contributing factors are the vague presentation of mental illness in older adults compared to younger people and the increased risk of disability and clinical complexity as one ages.
In this seminar you will:
- Learn about the prevalence and epidemiology of mental illness in older adults
- Understand the complexities of mental health and ageing from a multidisciplinary perspective
- From a panel discussion learn about the process of differential diagnosis from Clinicians working in the field
- Explore innovative approaches to improving mental health in older adults
