Manual Handling in Aged Care Facilities: A Bariatric Focus
Health workers in aged care facilities are likely to need to understand the specific manual handling requirements of bariatric clients to ensure their physical health is maintained. Geniene will present information on:
- relevant manual handling legislation
- evidence-based practice
- equipment to safely manage the handling of clients across the aged care spectrum.
She will also answer questions that you have around the manual handling of people in aged care facilities.

Physiotherapist, University of Western Sydney
Geniene is a physiotherapist with 33 years experience working in hospital, aged care and home care roles. She now works as a manual handling coordinator and designs manual handling equipment and furniture. She performs risk assessment on furniture and equipment for aged care facilities. Geniene is a member of the national Bariatric support group for allied health professionals and the Australian Association of Manual Handling of People. As well, she currently lectures in this topic at the University of Western Sydney.
