Keeping Moving in Older Age - Research on Pain, Osteoperosis and Exercise
It is well acknowledged that physical activity is important for health, especially as people age. Exercise is increasingly seen as a prescription for prevention of chronic disease and reduction in chronic disease effects.
However, the ageing process often means an increase in the barriers to physical activity such as experience of pain, and debilitating conditions like osteoporosis., which can be very difficult to overcome.
This seminar will explore perspectives on pain, chronic disease and keeping active in older age. Jenny Strong will present on pain experience and pain expression of older Australians. Jennifer Nitz will present on osteoperosis and exercises to prevent falls and fractures. Tim Henwood will present on using exercise as a countermeasure to sarcopenia and other later life diseases.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about some of the barriers to older people keeping active
- Consider some of the recent research around barriers to mobility, such as pain and osteoporosis
- Explore ways to enhance physical activity in older people
- Participate in a discussion about ways to improve physical activity for older people with chronic and painful conditions
This seminar is being held in collaboration with Health CRN
The Health CRN is supported through the Australian Government's Collaborative Research Networks (CRN) Program
