Health Reform and Older People - National Changes, Local Impacts - A Perspective from the Illawarra

There is much current discussion around reform agendas which will change the face of health, community and aged care in Australia. It is assumed that these health reforms will focus on increasing quality and efficiencies of care as well as emphasising increasing consumer choice and access to quality services.

This symposium allows participants an opportunity to hear about how these pending health reform processes will specifically impact on older people, their carers’ and care workers in the Illawarra area. As a consequence of attending this symposium participants will:

  • Recognise the impact of proposed health and aged care reform on older people, their carers and care workers in the Illawarra
  • Appreciate what barriers prevent participation in ageing and health reform
  • Hear varied perspectives on the current health and ageing reform process
  • Discuss the involvement of older people in the reform process
