Citizenship, Participation and Older People's Rights
As researchers and practitioners, we respond every day to issues affecting older people and policies relating to older people’s lives, health, support and activities. We work hard to ensure the work we do responds to the needs and concerns of older people.
BUT...
- How often do we engage directly with older people’s groups and representatives?
- How much do we know about how policy and practice priorities are formed?
- Where and how are older people’s voices heard?
Social services, aged care, disability and health services are increasingly focused on older people’s voices, participation and rights. Growing calls for a UN Convention on the Rights of Older People also reflect the importance of older people’s participation and rights in every aspect of life.
This seminar will address “Citizenship, Participation and Rights” with a focus on social and political participation, advocacy, health and aged care, and legal issues.
The seminar will be held in conjunction with the annual Queensland members’ meeting where we will farewell the outgoing committee and announce the 2014 committee.
