Better Oral Health for Older People
Oral health is generally poor among older people, especially those living in residential care. Frailty and cognitive impairment that often strike older people, especially those in residential care, may hinder them from getting access to timely dental care.The aim of the workshop is to provide an overview of oral health among older people and challenges in oral care provision and discuss possible strategies for appropriate oral health care for them.
Dr Haiping Tan will talk about an overview of oral health among older people, association between oral health and general health and challenges in oral health care.
Dr Lukas Tsakalos will be talking about "How to Make a Difference" in a residential care facility. He will relate to you his experiences, problems that he has faced and how aged care facilities can provide dental care to the residents, which routines work best and he will attempt to answer any questions you have.
Ms Adrienne Lewis will describe the outcomes of two important oral health projects in the aged care and their contribution to the development of contemporary models of oral care for older people.
Ms Jenny Bennett & Vivienne Tomlinson will present on empowering oral health in older people which is essential for good general health and quality of life.
