A Memorial Event to celebrate the life and work of the Late Emeritus Professor Hal Kendig
Professor Hal Kendig sadly died on 4 June 2018 from a neurological condition that had progressed rapidly. At his request, his funeral was a private affair for his family.
You are invited to join together with Hal’s colleagues, friends and family to celebrate his life and to honour his achievements at a memorial event on 24 August in Canberra. It is being hosted by the Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG), the Centre for Research in Ageing, Health & Wellbeing (CRAHW), the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) and the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA).
Hal was a Life Member of the AAG, and a Fellow of ASSA, honours bestowed on him in recognition of his long and powerful influence in shaping a national discourse on ageing, his advocacy for the needs and rights of older people and for a life course approach to ageing well. He was a passionate researcher and a highly respected transdisciplinary scholar. He made an important contribution to social gerontology, in Australia and internationally.
The memorial function will include tributes by eminent former colleagues, and will be followed by an informal light luncheon.
