New online showcase of AAG Research Trust awardees

With AAG Research Trust grants now open, we’re sharing and promoting the work undertaken by previous awardees. These stories demonstrate the type of projects funded through the AAG Research Trust grant programs and celebrate the success of previous awardees.

The first two showcases featured are:

Dr Amanda Krause: The role of radio in promoting well-being in older adults

In 2019, Dr Amanda Krause received one of the inaugural Hal Kendig Research Development Program grants, for a mixed methods project looking at how relationships built through radio engagement among listeners and presenters may contribute to managing social and emotional challenges connected with older age. Through this project, Amanda used a co-design process to develop an evidence-based resource to assist individuals, radio providers and aged care support personnel to promote individual well-being through engaging with radio. Amanda completed her project in 2022.

Dr Nathan D’Cunha: The benefits of engaging with arts for people living with dementia

In 2018, Dr Nathan D’Cunha received an RM Gibson Program grant. Collaborating with the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) as industry partner, the aim of the project was to evaluate the effects of an art gallery intervention on stress and inflammatory responses in people with dementia. It was the first study to measure salivary responses in a pre- and post-study design. With benefits apparent after only six weeks of engaging in the community-based, dementia-specific program, the findings from this project add to the evidence base for the benefits of engaging with arts for people living with dementia. Nathan completed his project in 2020.

If you've completed a project that was funded by the AAG Research Trust, we'd like to add your story to the showcase. Contact us at [email protected]
