Our Purpose and Principles

Purpose

Our over-arching aim is to improve the experience of ageing by connecting research, policy and practice.

Our key goals for 2020-23 are to:
  • Demonstrate leadership through setting the ageing agenda
  • Strengthen innovation and collaboration to increase impact and reach
  • Ensure evidence from multiple perspectives is at the centre of policy and practice
  • Grow sustainably as Australia’s peak body of choice in gerontology and ageing

Principles

  • We are evidence-informed: Our views are based on gerontological research, practice knowledge and the experiences of older people
  • We are multi-disciplinary and holistic: We put older people’s lives and environments at the centre of our work by bringing together those with interests in all aspects of ageing research, education, policy and practice
  • We are independent: While we acknowledge the contributions of different groups, we are not beholden to the interests of any profession, institution, service sector or interest group
  • We are collaborative: We bring together our members and key stakeholders to enhance the experience of ageing
  • We are fair: We are committed to promoting equity of access and outcomes for all older people in Australia and internationally
