Investigating alternative, affordable models of housing that could help older Australians

AAG Vice President - Dr Victoria Cornell has recently published her report on, 'The AV Jennings Churchill Fellowship to investigate alternative, affordable models of housing that could help older Australians to age-in-place'.

With older people making up a significant and growing proportion of the Australian population, it is crucial to explore new options that will enable them to age-in-place with dignity and independence.

This project explores how purpose-built multigenerational housing, co-housing, shared equity housing, and other alternative models overseas have been successful in accommodating the needs and aspirations of older people. These models are often more affordable and better designed than the options currently available in Australia, such as retirement villages and residential care.

We hope that the insights gained through this project will help pave the way for more affordable, desirable housing options for older Australians.

The report is now available for download
