It is not clear how Australia can achieve healthy ageing at scale, or whether the goal of healthy ageing resonates with many older people today. With a rapidly ageing population, this webinar asks whether a National Healthy Ageing Strategy could provide the clarity, coordination, and ambition needed to build a system that supports people to age well across the life course while looking after older people now.

This 90 minute wedinar was the first episode of the AAG Conversation webinar series titled "Building a Healthy Aging System in Every Community," featuring three presenters discussing different aspects of healthy aging.

* Tracey Johnson, CEO of Sandstone Health Group, presented a comprehensive 387-page literature review showing that proactive interventions can add 5-7 years of healthy life, emphasizing the need for a life course approach rather than focusing solely on aged care.
* Professor Philippa Carnemola from the University of Technology Sydney discussed how built environments and home modifications can support aging in place, highlighting the importance of accessible bathrooms, transportation, and community spaces.
* Dr. Barbara Barbosa-Neves presented research on loneliness in later life, sharing findings from studies on social technologies and the challenges of designing interventions that don't exacerbate existing vulnerabilities.

The presenters engaged in detailed discussions about ageism, rural health challenges, self-management, and the need for a national healthy aging strategy that goes beyond just physical health to include social, environmental, and community supports.
