Multi-Purpose Services & Geriatric Services in rural Western Australia


The Multi-Purpose Service program is a joint commonwealth and state/territory government initiative developed in early 1990s to support the sustainability of health and aged care services in regional communities where health and aged care services were limited. This presentation will provide an overview of the program, and how it currently supports the care needs of older people in country Western Australia

WA Division Committee Chair

Barbara is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and teaching and research academic in the School of Allied Health at Curtin University. Barbara's research interests have a particular focus on ageing and disability issues (including aged and disability care and caregiving), elder abuse, human rights, and advocacy. She has conducted a number of research projects in these areas over the past 20 years, in partnership with both government and non-government organisations in Western Australia, Queensland, and nationally.

Director, Aged Care
WA Country Health Service

Marcelle James has been working with WA Country Health Services since October 2019 as Director, Aged Care. Prior to this, Marcelle has worked in community and aged care positions in State Government and not for profit organisations.
