President: Helen Feist
Helen has have been a member of the AAG since 2004. During this time she have been actively involved in the student group, both as a State Representative from 2005 to 2007 and as National Student Representative in 2007. Helen has served as an AAG SA/NT State committee member since 2005 and as the SA/NT Vice President since 2007 and worked on the National Conference Committee in 2007. Currently she is also involved in the IAGG’s student group as an inaugural executive committee member working actively to engage student groups in the IAGG worldwide.
Helen’s background is in community development and research with older people. She has worked in not-for-profit community based organisations for over 20 years, both in Australia and overseas. Currently Helen is employed full-time as a Senior Research Associate with the University of Adelaide’s National Centre for Social Applications of GIS (GISCA) working chiefly on a three year project aimed at linking older rural dwelling people to community through technology and some other smaller projects. Helen is also working towards the completion of a PhD that explores and maps the social networks of older people ageing in place in rural communities.
Helen’s particular research and professional interests include rural issues and their influence on older people, community, place and ageing, the social networks of older people, the demography of ageing and the applications of GIS in social research and gerontology.

Educational program
Each year the SA/NT Division has a program of thematically linked meetings for its members and members of associated organisations consisting of seminars, symposia and special interest meetings, including seminars in rural areas. In addition it runs an annual one day scientific conference that includes in it the "ACH Group Sir Keith Wilson Oration".
