"New trends in assitive technology services"
James Barrientos is the Chief Executive Officer of LifeTec, a leading statewide provider of specialist advice and education on assistive technology to over 24,00 Queenslanders every year. His background includes senior health management positions and health professional roles - James has tertiary qualifications in Medical Prosthetics and Orthotics, as well as post graduate qualifications in Management. His presentation will provide LifeTec’s perspective on emerging client groups and their demands on assistive technology (AT) solutions. The presentation will feature a new delivery model that aims to respond to these changing client demands, and improve their independence and functionality by incorporating AT into peoples’ living environments. This ambient assisted living model has resulted in the development of a life size replica Demonstrator, which incorporates fully functional and integrated AT into a 60 m2 living environment.
"Building the research evidence for better supporting home telecare & telehealth"Professor Jeffrey Soar is Joint Chair in Intelligent Domestic Healthcare Infrastructure, a joint initiative of University of Queensland and the University of Southern Queensland. He is a researcher in Informatics for ageing and independent living with a particular interest in barriers to adoption, policy, business models and organisational change. This presentation will discuss the benefits and challenges of home telecare and telehealthto support care in home and community settings.
"PCEHR - an enabler for assitive technologies"
Professor Neil Bergmann is the Professor of Embedded Computing Systems in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland. His research interests are in computer engineering, and include information communication technology (ICT) based assistive technologies. The Australian Government's recent announcement of a Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record provides a significant benefit to the provision of telecare, and this talk looks at the benefits that a PCEHR might provide and the associated challenges if maximum advantage is to be gained from the introduction of the PCEHR.
