Student sections of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG)
There are now 19 gerontology student sections around the world, including the new student section for the International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse.
The first meeting of students was at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2005. Ten student sections were represented: USA (45yrs), Canada (10yrs), Malta (10yrs), Britain, Australia, New Zealand,Turkey India, China, Brazil (all new groups) and the International Medical Students representative.
The students group at the IAGG will have representatives from each of the five IAGG regions: Latin America, Asia/Oceania, North America, Africa and Europe. A rotational system will be developed to allow each regional representative to attend the IAGG council meetings at the World Congress, with funds allocated for this purpose. Regional representatives will also attend the regional council meetings at the Regional Congress.

Australian student representation at IAGG Asia/Oceania Region/New Zealand
The AAG Student Section has nominated a national representative to the Asia/Oceania Region/New Zealand. The national student representatives will be expected to serve on the committee for two years, which will involve a one year term as the deputy, before serving as the national student representative for a year. The retiring representative is expected to remain in contact with the student group for a further year to maintain continuity. This system of past, present and future representatives working together will provide the position with on-going, informed representation while allowing for maximum participation from all state representatives at a national, regional and international level.
